 Prompt: A word that I find myself using a lot right now is "like". The word "like" can be a verb, preposition, adverb or a filler word. I find myself using this word mainly as a filler word. I use it a lot when I am talking because I tend to find that when I am still thinking about what I'm going to say I say "like" as a filler word to let me process my thoughts. I use the word "like" almost every time I talk, which is probably a bad habit, but I don't really care enough to break that habit. I'm not sure what this reveals about me other than the fact that I can sometimes take a while to form my thoughts, especially when I'm talking. Summary: Today in class I wrote an argument paragraph. Reflection: Writing an argument paragraph is going to give me the practice I need for becoming a better writer. It also allows me to know what parts of my writing I need to improve on and to practice what we have been working on in class.

 Prompt: So far my experience in AP Lang has been very good. I have enjoyed the class and I have made new friends. I have already learned a lot and I can tell that I am becoming a stronger writer. One thing that has been challenging for me is fully understanding how to do certain things like write a strong claim.  Prompt: A time when I made a claim and someone questioned me was when I asked my parents to buy me clothes. They asked why I needed more clothes and I had to explain and convince them why they should get them for me. I told them that most of my clothes I had grown out of, so I didn't have as much to wear. I also explained to them that they were really cute and would help make my style better. They told me I get get them because I had convinced them it was a good purchase by providing and explaining my evidence. Summary: Today in class we watched and analyzed the OJ Simpson trial. Reflection: We watched and analyzed the OJ Simpson trial and focused on the evidence. Learning how to use strong evidence in my writings will help make my writing stronger. 

 Prompt: The learning method I enjoy the most is hands-on activities. I enjoy hands-on activities the most because they help me understand what we are learning better. I learn and understand things better by physically doing it rather than just taking notes on it. I also enjoy doing hands-on activities because it makes me feel productive. Another reason I like hands-on activities is because most of the time they are fun and involve talking to other classmates which can help me get a better understanding of what we're learning. Summary: Today in class we worked on writing claims. Reflection: Today we worked on writing claims which will help me be able to write a good argumentative essay. Being able to write and identify a claim in a piece of writing will help me become a better writer and do well on the AP test.

 Prompt: Something I will never fully be able to explain is how WiFi works. I don't understand how things connect to the WiFi and then start working. People have tried to explain it to me before but it just makes it more confusing. I don't understand how satellites in space are able to send signals down and it makes the WiFi work. I also don't understand how WiFi was created. Maybe one day i'll understand it better, but I don't think I will ever fully understand it. Summary: Today in class we worked on creating an Argumentative paragraph. Reflection: We learned the steps to making an Argumentative paragraph which will help me be able to write a good Argumentative essay. It will also help me learn how to plan my essay for the AP test.

 Prompt: One thing that makes me different from other people is my empathy. I am a very empathetic person, and I always make sure I'm looking out for others. I tend to feel bad for people if they are going through something on a deeper level and try to connect with them to make sure they know that I'm here for them. I make sure to think before I speak to take account of if my words will hurt others, even if I don't mean it in a bad way. I think empathy is a harder trait to find in people nowadays, so I try and make sure that I remain an empathetic person because it's important to me. My friends have told me that one of their favorite things about me is how empathetic I am, and that means a lot to me. Summary: Today in class we analyzed video clips for rhetorical situations and we took a quiz. Reflection: Analyzing the video clips will help me better understand rhetorical situations. It will also help me with being able to identify these situations in a text.

 Prompt: Living in Atlanta has influenced the way I see my community in many ways. It has helped me see how diverse and connected we are and how that makes living in Atlanta meaningful. I want people to understand that Atlanta is a beautiful place and because we are so diverse, Atlanta has so much to offer. Atlanta has so many different types of shops, restaurants, and activities that anyone would enjoy. I would encourage people to learn about the history of Atlanta and why it is so important and meaningful to those who live here. Summary: Today in class we listened to Mayor Bottoms "Go home" speech and analyzed it. Reflection: We listened to Mayor Bottoms "Go home" speech and analyzed it which helped me better understand rhetorical situation. This is going to help me be able to identify rhetorical situations and devices better and will help improve my writing.

 Prompt: The most creative thing I have ever made was for my 8th grade science fair. My friend and I chose to do our project on which brand of popcorn has the least amount of un-popped kernels. We spent multiple weeks working on both the experiment and the aesthetics of the project and it turned out great. Our board for the project was very on theme with our experiment and we put a lot of time and effort into it. I'm not the most artistic person, so I was very proud of how it turned out and I had so much fun doing the project. Summary: Today in class we went over rhetorical devices. Reflection: We went over identifying rhetorical devices in speech. This will help with my writing because I am now more familiar with rhetorical devices.

 Prompt: A time when I felt completely lost was when I was writing this blog post. I couldn't think of any time that I felt completely lost except for right now. I'm sure there have been times when I felt lost, but for some reason I can't think of any. Maybe it's because I'm super tired but my mind is completely blank. I guess this is a perfect example of being completely lost as that's exactly how I feel right now. Summary: Today in class we worked on Claims. Reflection: Today in class we did an assignment that helped with our understanding of claims. This assignment helped me better understand the types of claims and how to write a strong claim.

 Prompt: When I was younger I believed that Santa Claus was real. I always remember being so excited on Christmas Eve to wake up and see what Santa had brought me. Me and my brother would wake up super early and open our stockings, but we weren't allowed to wake our parents up until 7. We would sit and be so excited wondering what Santa had brought us, and thinking back on those times makes me feel so nostalgic. I will always remember my Christmas's before I found out Santa wasn't real and I can't wait until I have kids of my own so I can relive those moments all over again.  Prompt: An argument that I wish I would have handled differently was when I was fighting with my dad about hanging out with one of my friends. We were arguing about how my friend and I were going to meet up, and he felt like I was making him make the plans for me. My friend and I were planning on our families meeting for dinner so that she could come back over to my house, and I had asked my dad to text her mom to see if that would work for them. He had told me that I should be the one figuring this out and we went back and forth yelling at each other to try and get our point across. It turns out that there was a miscommunication if we had stepped back and talked calmly we would have figured that out, but instead we both wanted to be right and it ended up poorly for both of us. If I could do things differently I would have made sure we were both on the same page instead of just assuming because that could have prevented the whole situation.  Prompt: I persuaded my parents to go to Seaside for Spring Break. My parents didn't want to go because it was going to be super crowded and busy, but I was able to persuade them. I used Ethos, Pathos, and Logos to persuade them and I told them how most of my friends were going and that it would be super fun. We had already been before so I used that to convince them that I was already aware of how to get to places and how to be safe while doing so. Pathos was the most effective because my parents wanted me to have fun and they felt like it was important for me to be with my friends. It ended up being a very fun trip and I'm glad I was able to convince my parents to take our family there. Summary: Today in class we presented our Origin of Our Name assignment. Prompt Response: As I grow older I think I will have to stand up and debate politics the most. This is because as we are progressing in society, politics have become a major topic for arguments/discussions. Many people are hated or canceled for simply believing in something they stand for. No matter what side of politics you are on someone is going to find something that they disagree with, which can lead to debates/arguments. This can be between family, friends, or random people who know your opinion. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing though. I think it is important to have these discussions/ debates as long as they stay respectful because it can teach you a lot about a person or something that you weren't aware of before. Three goals I want to achieve this year are earning all A's in my classes, Improving my writing skills, and becoming more organized with my school work. I want to earn all A's because it will help me maintain my GPA so that I can get into UGA. I want to improve my writing skills because I plan to go into sports media and to do that I need to major in Journalism, so improving my writing will help me with that. I want to become more organized with my school work so I have a strong structure of when I'm going to complete my work. This way I wont be rushing to finish something because I will have a structure in place to keep me organized.
