On today’s rhetorical devices test, was it easier to recognize devices from their definitions or identify them in quotations? Explain why, and discuss a device that challenged you, if any. What did this experience reveal about how well your study habits prepared you?

Prompt: It was easier to identify the devices from their definitions. It was harder to recognize them in a text because some of the devices are very similar, which can make it difficult to tell the difference between them. A device that challenged me was Litotes because I couldn't remember what the definition for it was. This experienced revealed that my study habits worked well as I only got three questions wrong, though while taking the quiz I kept doubting myself and though I was going to do much worse. I'm glad that I reviewed my notes multiple times because if I hadn't I don't think I would have done well.

Summary: Today in class we took a quiz on rhetorical devices.

Reflection: This will test my knowledge on rhetorical devices and will help me identify the ones I need to work on. It will also help prepare me for the MCQ portion of the AP Exam.

Think of a time when you tried to persuade someone to agree with you, change their mind, or do something you wanted. What were you trying to persuade them to do or believe? How did you use ethos, pathos, or logos to persuade them? Which appeal was most effective and why?
